All About Square Hardware

The hardware you’ll need depends on your device — whether it’s a Square Terminal, Square Stand, iPad, iPhone, or Android tablet. Each device supports specific printers and connection types (USB, Ethernet/LAN, Wireless, or Bluetooth), so knowing your setup ensures full compatibility.

For an all-round, reliable printer compatible with multiple interfaces and available in both black and white, we recommend the Star Micronics mC-Print3.

Cash Drawers are straightforward — most connect via an RJ12 cable (similar to a telephone plug) and link directly to your receipt printer. While Square lists certain USB drawers for the Square Stand and Terminal, only APG USB drawers are officially supported (and not commonly stocked in Australia). However, alternative solutions may become available soon.

Barcode Scanners also vary by device. For iPad or Square Stand setups, the Socket Mobile Bluetooth Scanner is ideal. For Android, Square Register, or Square Terminal systems, a USB Barcode Scanner is the better option.

If you want a compact and modern POS setup, the Star Micronics mPOP Drawer/Printer Combo is a fantastic choice. Note that this unit only supports Socket Bluetooth Scanners, as USB scanners are not compatible.
